Renowned artist Burna Boy pens a heartfelt apology to Nigerian media outlets amidst a scathing critique of Western publications for their recent coverage of him.
In recent times, the Afrobeats icon has found himself embroiled in conflicts with bloggers due to their persistent intrusion into his personal affairs.
Having previously attempted to negotiate with certain bloggers to cease mentioning him in their publications, Burna Boy’s frustrations have reached new heights.
The ‘Twice as Tall’ maestro has strongly condemned Western media for circulating a photo of his clean-shaven face, misleadingly implying it was a recent image.
Emphasizing that the photo was captured in 2021, the last time he had completely shaved his beard, Burna Boy expressed disappointment at the misrepresentation.
He went on to remark that while he had once believed Nigerian media to be uniquely insensible, he now realizes they may have adopted such behaviors from their Western counterparts.
In a candid message, he addressed his detractors:
“To all those who rely on outlets like theshaderoom @theshadeborough and other obscure blogs for their daily news, I shaved my beard in 2021, NOT recently. It’s disheartening that amidst the milestones and breakthroughs I’ve achieved, you parasites are fixated on trivial matters like ‘Burna Boy shaved his beard.’ I owe Nigerian media an apology; I initially believed their ignorance was unparalleled, unaware that they’ve drawn inspiration from the West.”
