In a significant move towards modernizing Nigeria’s broadcasting landscape, President Bola Tinubu has approved a N10 billion grant to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to accelerate the Digital Switch-Over (DSO) project.
This initiative aims to transition the country from analogue to digital broadcasting, enhancing the quality and accessibility of television services nationwide.
The announcement was made by NBC Director-General Charles Ebuebu during a press conference in Abuja, where he emphasized that this grant is more than just financial support; it symbolizes the government’s commitment to technological advancement and economic growth.
The funds will be utilized to develop diverse television channels, lease satellite transponders for comprehensive signal coverage, and establish content production studios across various regions.
Additionally, the DSO project aims to bridge the digital divide by ensuring that even remote communities gain access to vital information and entertainment.
This transition is expected to create jobs, attract foreign investment, and enrich Nigeria’s cultural landscape, ultimately positioning the nation as a competitive player in the global media arena.
