The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (NNPCL) has revealed that the recent petrol scarcity plaguing the nation is primarily due to adverse weather conditions, including heavy rains, lightning, and thunderstorms.
During a press conference on August 20, NNPCL’s Vice President, Dapo Segun, addressed the growing fuel queues that have left many car owners waiting for hours at filling stations.
He noted that these conditions have not only disrupted fuel distribution but also led to a spike in black market prices, with fuel now costing over N1,000 per litre in some areas.
Segun expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to Nigerians, emphasizing that while the NNPCL is committed to resolving the issue, many challenges are beyond their control.
He explained that the rains have made navigation difficult in key transport channels, and lightning has forced the suspension of fuel discharges both onshore and from tankers.
Despite these setbacks, he assured the public that efforts are underway to restore normal supply levels and alleviate the current scarcity across the country.
