The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has voiced strong opposition to an upcoming film featuring actress Nancy Isime, calling for its ban due to perceived Islamophobic themes.
The organization claims that the film presents Muslim women who wear the niqab in a negative light, depicting them as criminals involved in bank robberies.
This portrayal, according to Professor Ishaq Akintola, the Executive Director of MURIC, is not only offensive but also reinforces harmful stereotypes about Muslims, particularly Muslim women.
MURIC describes the film as “satanic” and argues that it incites public animosity towards the Muslim community, potentially leading to increased discrimination and societal tensions.
The organization is urging the National Film and Video Censors Board to intervene and prevent the film’s release, emphasizing the need for sensitivity and respect towards religious beliefs and practices.
This controversy highlights ongoing discussions about representation in media and the impact of film on societal perceptions of different cultures and religions.
