In a significant development for Nigeria’s energy landscape, the Port Harcourt refinery has taken delivery of 1 million barrels of crude oil, marking a crucial step towards its long-awaited restart.
This milestone comes as the refinery has also secured the necessary license to commence operations, a testament to the country’s unwavering commitment to achieving self-sufficiency in domestic oil refining.
The arrival of the crude oil shipment and the issuance of the operating license are the culmination of extensive repair and maintenance work carried out at the refinery.
According to Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the mechanical works on the refinery have been completed, and it is now poised to resume operations in April 2024.
