The Court of Appeal has ordered former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to appear for arraignment concerning serious allegations of fraud amounting to over N80 billion.
This directive follows his absence during previous court sessions, which raised questions about his compliance with legal proceedings.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been pursuing charges against Bello for alleged money laundering and misappropriation during his tenure.
Bello’s legal team has faced scrutiny for failing to produce him in court, leading to a referral to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee for professional misconduct.
The court emphasized that no further legal actions could be taken until Bello appears, reinforcing the seriousness of the situation.
The EFCC is determined to proceed with the case, which includes allegations against Bello’s nephew and others involved.
As the legal battle unfolds, the court has set a new date for the arraignment on September 25, 2024, urging Bello to comply with the law or face the consequences of his continued absence.
