In a passionate defense of Nigeria’s interests, former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has spoken out against Zhongfu International Investment, declaring that the company cannot scam Nigeria.
His comments come in light of the ongoing legal turmoil surrounding the seizure of three Nigerian presidential jets, which were confiscated in France and Switzerland amid a contentious dispute.
The conflict traces back to a terminated contract between the Ogun State government and Zhongfu for the management of the Ogun Guangdong Free Trade Zone.
After the contract was ended in 2016, Zhongfu claimed it incurred losses of $1.078 billion and sought arbitration.
A tribunal ruled in favor of Zhongfu, awarding them $70 million, a decision that has been upheld by a UK court.
Amosun emphasized the importance of the federal government taking decisive action to reclaim the jets, which are valued at over $100 million.
He urged authorities to approach this situation with the same seriousness as the notorious P&ID scandal, expressing his readiness to collaborate with government agencies to protect Nigeria’s assets.
His remarks underline a commitment to ensuring that foreign entities do not exploit the country’s resources.
