The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has taken decisive action by indefinitely suspending Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II, Okpravero C. Ufuoma, after a video surfaced showing him begging a traveler for money at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The video, which went viral on social media, sparked outrage and prompted a swift response from the NIS.
In a statement, Comptroller General Kemi Nandap condemned Ufuoma’s behavior as disgraceful and contrary to the organization’s commitment to professionalism and integrity.
The NIS emphasized that such conduct undermines ongoing reforms aimed at improving service standards.
Ufuoma’s suspension is pending further disciplinary procedures, adhering to legal and public service regulations.
To prevent similar incidents, the NIS is installing electronic gates at all international airports in Nigeria, enhancing passenger experience and reducing opportunities for misconduct.
This initiative is part of the NIS’s broader strategy to combat corruption and uphold high standards of service delivery, reinforcing their commitment to hospitality and courtesy in interactions with travelers.
