In a move aimed at modernizing the vehicle registration system, the Nigeria Police Force has announced that all vehicle owners must pay an annual fee of N5,375 for the Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) certificate.

Mandatory e-CMR Registration: N5,375 Fee, July 29 Deadline.

The deadline for this mandatory payment has been set for July 29, 2024.

The introduction of the e-CMR on January 1, 2023, was a strategic decision to digitalize the previously manual Central Motor Registry (CMR) system.

This transition aims to address the challenges associated with the outdated paper-based approach and enhance the tracking of stolen vehicles by populating a comprehensive database.

COMMENTARIES:

@Jatiti_Of_lagos: “It’s important to question why e-CMR is necessary. What exactly is e-CMR and what is its purpose? Why should vehicle owners bear the cost? Even with all the documents obtained from vehicle agencies, is it until citizens come out in large scale and Kenya the Nation before you people know when to stop?”.

@OkahEwahEdede: “I have checked the portal and even went through the registration, they’re simply asking us to pay N5,375 to deposit our information and car details with the police. Simply put, we are paying so that the police can update their database of cars and owners”.

@THRILLTAYO: “Pay 5300 now so you work waste 5hrs and pay 50k later at the back office of a police station somewhere”.

@Geo_dre1: “Always looking for means of extorting from the masses”.
